We Represent Bus Users

The Somerset Bus Partnership is recognised by Somerset Council and by both Buses of Somerset and First West of England as the organisation that represents bus users across Somerset.

We support 12 Bus User Groups across Somerset, have over 150 local bus champions and run some 80 events a year in towns and villages across Somerset providing information about local bus services.

Somerset Bus Partnership attends Somerset Council’s Bus Advisory Board. We also hold the Chair and Vice Chair of the Council’s Bus Users and Stakeholders Group where we set the agenda. Both these Boards meet quarterly.

So in our meetings, we talk about what bus users want and explore if and how that can work financially for the bus operator, if it can, then they will action our suggestions. As examples, recently they have agreed to serve Yeovilton via the 54 and soon in Frome they will start to serve Commerce Park.

WhatsApp Channel

Somerset Bus Partnership recently launched a new WhatsApp channel where we will be posting news and updates. Don’t worry, your phone number isn’t visible to anyone (even us!). Please consider joining.

NEW Digital Demand Responsive Somerton Slinky Service

Since May 28th, a new demand responsive bus service, funded by the Government Bus Service Improvement Plan, has started operating within the Somerton zone, covering places such as Barton St Davids, Langport, and Lydford-on-Fosse. This service allows people to access local amenities such as shops, doctor’s appointments, visiting friends and family, and days out in the local area.

Anyone can use the service as long as there isn’t a public bus running the same route. There are dozens of pickup/drop-off points across the Somerton Zone network.

Bookings must be made at least 1 hour in advance either via the Somerton Slinky mobile app or by calling the booking office on 01823 359999. The bus service runs Monday-Friday 7am-7pm.

Bus Stalls

Because so many regular bus users can’t access the internet, and even more find printed timetables much easier to use than online timetables, the Somerset Bus Partnership prints and distributes many thousands of bus timetables at our bus stalls across Somerset. This year to date we have run 40 bus stalls and we have a further 40 planned for the second half of 2024. A full list of our events can be found here:

The focus will be explaining to bus users about the new bus times that will get introduced in September. September also happens to be Catch The Bus Month.

Could you possibly help at any of our planned bus stalls for an hour or so? If you can help, get in touch using the link below.
